In this moment, what Discovery has
Tom Barrack from the Stanford Lecture he gave on investing.
activated in you?

In watching the Stanford Investing Lecture series, I came away with the discovery that the best investors are "Theme-less." What I mean by "theme-less" is that the very highest performing investors are the most open to radical and quick changes in the markets.
Most companies in the investing realm do months and months of researching and strategizing and spending so much money with the goal of creating a theme, meaning a succinct description on where they think the markets are going. And then they go out and try to confirm their theme in the real world over the ensuing quarters. With all this money and time and focus being poured into only seeing and confirming what they already believe, these companies become blind to anything that does not support their theme, and they lose the ability to take advantage of rapid changes in the market.

Stepping back from what you have discovered, why has this discovery been extremely positive?

This discovery has been extremely positive because it has awakened me to the truth. The truth is that sometimes I want to be right so much that I become blind to other points of view. The truth is that for awhile now I have been tied to a specific theme about life and it has completely handicapped me from taking advantage of the numerous opportunities that come to me every day. I am committed to changing my perspective. I am committed to staying open.
